Global week against modern slavery, November 14 – 21, 2021
Global week: Churches together against modern day slavery
Small or big – any kind of participation counts. You are welcome to join!
Millions of people around the world live like slaves due to human trafficking, forced labor, forced prostitution and other forms of exploitation. War, poverty and climate change forces people to flee, and many of these end up in exploitation under slave-like conditions. Covid-19 has created «favorable conditions» for more exploitation. Slavery manifests itself in Norway, too.
During November 14 – 21 2021 (week 46) churches all over Norway and across denominations will take part in «Global week against modern slavery» facilitated by the Christian Council of Norway (CCN).
We invite your church to take part by bringing the topic to one of your arenas. It can be done in an easy way and need not take much extra effort. Raise the topic of modern slavery in your Sunday service, in your coffee & fellowship -time, youth meeting, Bible study, or other arenas during the week. We encourage you to do it together with other churches or organizations in your neighborhood. Global week is a unique opportunity to show Christian unity. Remember to register your event here (when site is ready for 2021 -registration)
Small or big – any kind of participation counts. Welcome to join in!
Please pray together with other churches during Global week. This is enough to count you as a participating congregation. You can make use of the common prayer that will be published on this website.
The Christian Council offers
VISIT BY A RESOURCE PERSON
We have two international guests and many resource persons/experts on the slavery topic who can visit your congregation, who can give presentations, share stories and theological perspectives, or preach on the topic. We will cover the cost as far as the Budget allows.
Find description (in Norwegian) of slavery, links to organizations, devotional and resource materials, “facts & action sheet” for handout; inspirational texts on slavery, examples of films you may use, etc. Materials in English for churches can be found at Freedom Sunday (ecumenical), Salvation Army, or the Clewer Initiative (Church of England) , Hope for Justice (Hope Sunday), A21.org, tc.
We can support you with a small grant to cover costs of your event, like food, equipment, remuneration (to expert or lecturer), etc.. To apply for financial support, contact firstname.lastname@example.org
